He was born on February 5, 1933, in Monroe, Arkansas, to the late Ed and Alice Johnson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jewell Johnson; and his siblings, Louis Johnson, Garland Johnson, Lavelle Wardy, Helen Loftis, and Rose Fowler.
Don moved away from Monroe, AR to live with his brother Louis in Wichita, KS and worked at Boeing Company for a couple years. Then he went to Memphis to work on the highways and interstates for the State of Tennessee for 35 years.
He later met and married his love Jewell Owens Johnson. They were married for 47 years and had 2 children.
As a child, Don loved riding and racing horses with his brothers and cousins. He loved cutting yards, hanging at the coffee shop and catching a country or bluegrass music show. Don found great joy picking up and taking his grandkids to and from school and ball games. He truly loved his family!
Don is survived by his children, Wes Johnson (Donna) and Donelle Morrison (Lance); his grandchildren, Nicole Johnson, Kane Gardner, Ryan Morrison, and Cameron Johnson; his great-grandchildren, Tobin Johnson, Chloe Gardner, and Joey Gardner; and his brother, Ronnie Johnson (Virginia).
A visitation for Don will be held Sunday, January 19, 2025 from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119. A funeral service will occur Monday, January 20, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 5599 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119. A committal service will occur Monday, January 20, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119.
