

Mrs. Doris Key Barre, 90, of Germantown passed away at home on January 29th, 2016. Mrs. Barre was born in Mt. Lebanon, Louisiana on February 19th, 1925, to Ruby Myrtle Reese Key and Mason Gibbs Key of Mt. Lebanon, LA. She was very proud of being 90 years old and would remind everyone around her. She graduated from high school in Gibsland, LA where she was Salutatorian of her class. She went to business school in Shreveport, LA where she met and married Louis Albin Barre, III of Shreveport, LA. Mr. Barre became an officer in the United States Air Force and they traveled to and lived in many US States and Europe, spending the last 43 years in Hawaii. Mrs. Barre devoted a lot of time and energy to the Officers Wives Clubs. She also volunteered with the Girl Scouts, The American Red Cross, and the Family Services Organizations on numerous military bases. When asked what she thought of volunteer work, Mrs. Barre said, “their whole lives with the Air Force were more than volunteering, they were a commitment to their country.” She was also an accomplished Japanese flower arranger and teacher. Her many interests included playing bridge, reading and gardening. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Louis Barre of Germantown, TN and her two daughters Carol Mauceri of Newmarket, NH, Janine Tretter Carney (James) of Germantown, TN and her beloved granddaughter Kelli Tretter McLain (Mac) of Collierville, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to any Veteran’s Organization, ASPCA, or other animal charities. Mrs. Barre will be interred at the National Cemetery of the Pacific (Punchbowl Cemetery) in Honolulu, Hawaii at a later date.
