Doris Hughes

DORIS E. HUGHES, 87, entered into eternal rest after a long battle with cancer on June 15, 2013 surrounded by her family. Born June 9, 1926, she was the oldest of five daughters of Elsie and William M. Miller. She was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Earl B. Hughes in 1988. Doris will be missed by sons, Danny E. Hughes and Chris M. Hughes; daughter, Sandra H. Yarbrough as well as son-in-law, William Yarbrough. She felt so blessed to have three wonderful grandchildren, Josh Yarbrough, Craig Yarbrough, and Amanda Cooper and her husband, Ricky, all of Memphis. Doris also leaves two sisters, Peggy Shepherd and Nancy Sullivan, and was preceded in death by sisters, Nita Emerson and Shirley Gray of Memphis. Doris’ large loving family also included nieces and nephews Tina, Sheri, Debbie and Mark (deceased), Vicki and Larry, Jan, Lee Ann and Steve, Cathy and Joe, Terry, and Amy and Sammy. The Hughes family wants to pay special tribute to Doris’ long time friends Mary Etta Reeves (deceased) and Helen Lemons, who brought joy to her life. Doris was a member of Leawood Baptist Church. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Wednesday, June 19 at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave., Memphis. Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Thursday, June 20 at Family Funeral Care, followed by burial in Memphis Memory Gardens, Garden of the Cross.
