She was born on October 21, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, to the late Saint Elmo and Birdie Starnes. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Tackett; her grandson, Danny Thompson; and five brothers.
Doris was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who cherished her family above all else. She is survived by her children, Tommy High, Bobby High, and Rita Thompson-Lawson; her grandchildren, Candice Caccamisi, Kevin High, and Shawn High; her great-grandchildren, Peyton Caccamisi, Carlo Caccamisi II, and Miley Tristen Annette Thompson; and her great-great-grandchildren, Emmerson Johnson, Riven Johnson, and one precious great-great-grandchild on the way.
Doris found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved spending time fishing, preparing home-cooked meals for those she loved, and searching for special treasures while thrifting. She also enjoyed trips to the casino and the excitement they brought. More than anything, Doris was deeply family-oriented and happiest when surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and extended loved ones.
Her warmth, strength, and unwavering love for her family will be remembered always and missed dearly by all who knew her.
