

Mrs. Dorothy “Dot” Brannan Buchanan went home to be with the Lord and her husband, Buck, and daughter, Becky, on February 22, 2015, in Memphis, TN, at the age of 85. Dot is survived by her daughter Dottie Weir and her husband Steve Weir (Memphis), grandchildren Will Weir and his wife Bekah (Birmingham, AL), Ben Weir and his wife Lauren (Wake Forest, NC), and Sara Weir (Memphis). She also is survived by her half-sister Veida Kitchens of Leakesville, MS. Dot was born on January 8, 1930 in Booneville, MS to Boyd Benjamin Brannan and Mariam Spain Brannan. She attended Mississippi College for Women and Hinds Junior College. She married Oscar W. Buchanan, whom she met on a blind date. They were married in Columbus, MS in 1950. After living for a time in Yazoo City, MS, they settled in Memphis, TN. Her last place of residence was Solana in Germantown, which she enjoyed. Her children and grandchildren remember her affectionately as “Grammy,” a quick-witted, winsome, and loving grandmother. Dot was a dedicated member of Colonial Baptist Church and a long-time volunteer at the Mid-South Fair’s Exhibits. A gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, February 25 from 1-3 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home 5599 Poplar Ave. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Down Syndrome Association of Memphis in memory of Becky Buchanan, 2893 S.
