Dedication of Life for Dorothy Mason
Today, we celebrate a true woman of God, a woman who put God first, feared God, obeyed God, and trusted in Him with all her heart.
Dorothy Mason was a living testimony of faith, perseverance, and unwavering strength. She faced life’s fiercest storms, moments that would have broken many, yet she never allowed hardship to define her. She was a fighter. She endured with grace. She stood on God’s promises when circumstances tried to shake her. Through every valley and every trial, she leaned into her faith, trusting completely that God was her healer, her protector, and her sustainer. And time after time, He carried her through.
Many years ago, Dorothy earned her degree in business. With her love for cleanliness, not just for appearance but for creating healthy and welcoming environments, she entered the cleaning industry. But she did not enter it casually. She entered it with vision.
She dreamed of owning her own janitorial business. She dreamed of giving back. She dreamed of helping others build better lives.
To prepare herself, she worked for other companies as a janitorial worker and supervisor, learning the industry from the ground up. She paid attention. She gained knowledge. She developed insight. She prepared herself for what God had already prepared for her.
More than 20 years ago, when her daughter Shontris was just a baby, Dorothy carried that dream with her everywhere she went. She would take Shontris along with a friend who would wait in the car while Dorothy walked onto construction sites, boldly seeking opportunities for final construction clean up projects. With nothing but faith, flyers, and business cards in hand, she introduced her company, proudly named Mason’s Professional Cleaning Service, LLC.
At that time, she had no equipment. But she had faith.
And when the first call came, God made a way. She was able to purchase used cleaning equipment from a pawn shop. With the help of friends and family, her company began performing outstanding final clean up projects. Word spread. Opportunities increased. Favor followed faith.
Her company completed projects for well known establishments and million dollar homes. Eventually, Dorothy advanced into commercial cleaning and began bidding for large contracts. And she did not just bid. She won.
Her company was awarded contracts with city governments, state agencies, federal entities, and major public institutions. She received the MLGW Flame Award not once, but twice, in 2012 and 2022, an honor recognizing minority owned and women owned businesses that go above and beyond in excellence and innovation.
Today, Mason’s Professional Cleaning Service, LLC competes against multi billion dollar corporations for multi million dollar contracts. In bid interviews, she was told that her proposals were better prepared than those of companies with entire teams dedicated to writing them.
That is what happens when faith meets preparation.
That is what happens when obedience meets opportunity.
That is what happens when you trust God completely.
But beyond her accomplishments, Dorothy Mason’s greatest legacy was her heart.
She loved deeply, especially her husband, her daughter, her family, and her friends. She found joy in seeing others succeed. She celebrated her employees’ victories, whether it was getting a car, moving into a better home, or advancing in life. Their progress thrilled her heart.
There is a quote that says, “He who gives while he lives, also knows where it goes.” Dorothy gave while she lived. She gave encouragement. She gave opportunity. She gave love. She gave support.
And there is another saying: “Give people their flowers while they live.” We did just that. We celebrated her. We honored her. We showed her our appreciation.
Dorothy, we are forever grateful for all that you poured into each of us. Your faith strengthened us. Your generosity inspired us. Your determination motivated us.
Fly high, God’s beautiful angel.
Fly high.
We love you.
And we will miss you dearly.
