She confessed her life to God at an early age at Morning Star Missionary Church.
Dorothy departed this life on January 29th, 2021.
She met Theodis Thomas in 1958, at the age of 5, and the two later married on December 30th, 1975. Theo and Dorothy were married for a total of 45-years.
Dorothy worked as an Airline Stewardess in 1972, however she soon discovered her true passion of nursing. She spent 3 years as a Nursing Assistant and became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 1977. Dorothy began her career and served at Baptist Hospital until 2001; She continued servicing in medical care at Quince Nursing and Rehabilitation Center until she retired in 2018. Over the course of her 41-years as a nurse, Dorothy received countless awards including the Nursing Service Award (1977) and the Professional Nursing Award (2002).
Dorothy and Theodis welcomed one daughter, Kristin Michelle Thomas, in August of 1994.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Sallie Mae Herndon Sr., two brothers, Earl Herndon Jr., James “Pop” Herndon, and one sister, Debra “Cookie” Stokes. Dorothy leaves behind her husband, Theodis Thomas, daughter, Kristin Thomas, six siblings, Emma Martin, Delois Hawkins, Jimmy Herndon, Terry Herndon, Brenda Herndon, and Gregory Herndon, along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
