It’s a strange world with no Dudley in it. There’s no one to say Hannah-Annah or to give me a rough kiss on the cheek and ask if it took. There’s no one to fly through the streets of Germantown (in a sports car), trying to get some air on a steep hill. No one to share a glass of heart medicine with or a brutal game of Scrabble. I can say all kinds of things that leave me wide open for a big old joke and there won’t be a Dudley to seal it with a punchline. Dudley, at least if I look up I can see you from time to time. So long.

We loved Dudley and Jane and enjoyed a longtime friendship with them.  We last sat down to dinner with them on November 8, 2018 at Southern Social in Germantown, before we moved to Franklin, TN.  Dudley and David flew corporate jets together for eight years at W.R. Grace.  Our condolences to his beloved Jane and to all his loving family.  In the photo attached, he is showing us a recent group photo of his family.  

Dudley was my first contact at FedEx Corporate. Always a kind gentleman, welcoming and supportive. I always delighted in seeing him at our annual Christmas gatherings at the hangar. Truly a light in my life, I will miss him and wish him Godspeed and peace. Love and condolences to his family and beloved wife.

I had the pleasure and honor to work and fly with Dudley for many years at FEDEX Corporate Aviation. He was an outstanding pilot and leader as Chief Pilot until retirement in 1999.  
 We had many memorable trips together to various locations worldwide over the years. I always enjoyed his stories about his early flying career in the USAF and his years with GRACE company.
 I looked forward to our Christmas get togethers at FEDEX after retirement where we could reminisce about the past.  He was a true professional and gentleman and will be missed by all who new him. Thanks for the memories Dudley,

In memory of Captain Dudley Johnston and my sincere condolences to Jane and his family. 
 My three years of flying ( ‘85 - ‘87) as a junior pilot in the Corporate Aviation Department with Dudley (and other Senior pilots) was my most memorable experience with Fedex in my 34+ years of flying. Dudley  was by far one of the most disciplined pilots that I’ve ever encountered in the cockpit.  It wasn’t easy to meet Dudley’s high standards but he was always there to nurture me with the utmost respect.  He taught me a lot & I will miss him.

Dudley and I were friends, Air Force flight school classmates, squadron mates and housemates for a time.  We both made flying our career but took different routes, I leaving the Air Force in 1956 while Dudley stayed in.  We have not seen each other for 65 years, but we reconnected by email and 'phone, and spoke only days ago, not knowing for the last time.

I will always remember Dud's ever smiling face and pleasant demeanor, a true gentleman in every respect.  Rest in  peace my friend.








Tim and I send our sincerest condolences to the entire family.  We are so sorry for your loss!  Dudley was a special person and he will be greatly missed! It was an honor to have gotten to know Mr. Dudley, for the last three  years him and Mrs. Jane has treated me very good , as their caregiver. Mr. Dudley told me the last time I seen him that he would miss me because I was family, I will truly miss the non funny jokes, and all the laughter we shared, all he ever talked about was his flying, so rest now because you are flying all around the world now again.

My sympathy goes out to Dudley's family. I was fortunate to get to meet him on several occasions  and thought he was such an interesting and wonderful person.  May God Bless and comfort his family!

It was always wonderful to see Mr. and Mrs. Johnston over the years when they would visit Crossville to see Jeanette and family for holidays, showers, weddings, or just a visit.   Our prayers, love, and condolence go out to all of the family in the passing of Mr. Johnston.
