

Ed Lillard, 89, passed away on August 20, 2018 at his home in Bartlett, TN surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Memphis, TN March 10, 1929. He attended Humes and Tech High Schools and was on the Track and Wrestling teams. He also earned a BA in Criminal Justice from Memphis State University. In 1948-52 he served in the US Navy during the Korean War as an airman on the USS Monterey. Ed served on the City of Memphis Police department for 33 years from 1957-1990 in Homicide, Vice, and Juvenile bureaus, then as Uniform field Lieutenant and retired as Captain. After retirement he worked security at the Federal Building during the late 1990's - early 2000's. He was a member of Dellwood Baptist Church for over 30 years, and currently a member of Egypt Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and Treasurer. He enjoyed playing tennis regularly into his 80's, and took pleasure in teaching many others to play. He enjoyed singing in church choirs, the Memphis barbershop chapter of SPEBQSA, and various choruses and theaters in the community. Ed was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Norma Lillard, his son Michael Lillard, as well as his siblings, Ruth Ganow, Doris Fleeger and James Lillard. He is survived by his daughters Amy Connor (Brian) of Bartlett, TN and Laura Schafer (Lance) of Colorado Springs, CO. Also five grandchildren, Joshua Lillard, Hope Williams (Kelvin), Autumn Gutierrez (Misael), and Logan Dunn (Taylor), and Travis Newton, two great grandchildren, Cadence Lillard and Royce Gutierrez. He always had a song in his heart and will be missed and cherished in the hearts of those who knew him. The family will receive friends for a luncheon on Sunday, August 26th at 1:30pm in the (Old Church) at Egypt Baptist Church 4454 Raleigh Millington Rd followed by the memorial service at 3pm in the Main Sanctuary.
