

Sue was born to the late Lewis and Lillian Crowe on July 20, 1922, in Oxford, Mississippi. She graduated from University High School in Oxford and received an associate degree from Northwest Mississippi Community College. After graduation, she moved to Memphis where she was employed by Baker Electric Company. She also worked as bookkeeper at Smith and Wells Pest Control and Hill Smith Termite Company for over 30 years.
In 1946, Sue married the late Eugene Roy Wells. Sue and Gene made their home in Memphis where they were active members of Highland Heights Baptist Church. Sue’s love of children led her to work in the church nursery for more than 50 years. She treasured her family, friends and church and will be remembered for her loving and generous nature. She was an excellent seamstress, wonderful cook and avid gardener.
Sue is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Thomas Greene of Bristol, TN.; grandchildren, James Greene of Memphis, TN, Courtney and Joe Vance of Atlanta, GA, Brittany and Cole Fitchett of Charleston, SC, and Tyler Wells Greene of New York, NY; great grandchildren, Maxwell Elliott Vance and Molly Claire Vance of Atlanta, GA; brother and sister-in-law, Gayle and Bonnie Crowe of Oxford, MS.; sisters-in-law, Betty Crowe of Prescott, AZ, Jean Crowe of Oxford, MS, and Dorothy Smith of Memphis, Tn.; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Eugene Roy Wells; three brothers, James Crowe, Hugh Crowe and Dwight Crowe; brother-in-law, George Smith and sister and brother-in-law Beverly and Harold Shipman.
The family wishes to thank the staff of King’s Daughters and Sons Home who provided Sue with loving care, especially Kelly Roberson and Barbara Harris. Special thanks go to Carol Ann White, Phyllis Bondurant and the members of her Sunday School class at Bartlett Baptist Church for their kindness and support these past four years.
Services will be held at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel on Saturday, February 21, 2015. Visitation will begin at 11 AM with a memorial service to follow at 1PM. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
