Fred Christie

FRED CHRISTIE, 89, a lifetime Memphian, died February 2, 2010 at SignatureHealthcare. Mr. Christie was a U.S. Navy Seabee’s veteran of WWII. He managed Christie Cut Stone Co. from 1945 until 1984 and specialized in Gothic Architecture which can be seen on campuses such as Rhodes College and churches such as Idlewild Presbyterian. He was a current member of Eudora Baptist Church. After his retirement, he enjoyed traveling and spending time with his family. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Saturday, February 6 until service at 11 a.m. at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Interment will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Shirley M. Christie; two daughters, Claire C. Owen, Alexis C. Ramsey (Steve); son, Bond Christie (Donna); six grandchildren, Dr. Phillip Owen (Sara), Bradley Owen, Andrew Christie (Veronica), Michael Christie (Britney), Amanda Ramsey, Julia Ramsey; two great-grandchildren, Bond J. Christie and Cruiz Christie. He was preceded in death by his parents Alec and Lilias Christie. Memorials may be sent to Youth Villages or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital .
