Gary Morgan Albright, 73, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, February 5th, at Rainbow Nursing and Rehab in Bartlett, TN.
Born on January 30th, 1952 in Memphis, TN, Gary was the son of Nezzie and John Albright. He graduated from Overton High School before earning a degree in Microbiology from Memphis State University.
During his college years, Gary met and fell in love with Frankie Carolyn Albright. They married on September 14th, 1974, building a life together filled with love, faith, family, and community.
Later in life, he and Frankie became beloved figures in their community for their elaborate Christmas displays. Their holiday spirit extended beyond their home, as they joyfully portrayed Santa and Mrs. Claus at Hickory Ridge Mall, bringing smiles to many children and families.
Gary’s faith was a cornerstone of his life. He and Frankie were one of five families that planted Immanuel Baptist Church (later becoming The Church at Schilling Farms), where Gary served as an active servant-leader and giver to the mission of God’s people. Gary had a huge heart for the Lord Jesus Christ and the work of His church!
Gary loved playing golf and connecting with anyone who enjoyed the sport. He used his time on the course to make a positive influence on others. He spent many years volunteering for the St. Jude Golf Tournament, a cause close to his heart.
Professionally, Gary applied his Microbiology degree and founded AT Laboratories, where he specialized in the testing of agricultural products. His dedication to his work left a lasting impact in his field.
In 2014, Gary faced a life-changing spinal cord injury that left him mostly paralyzed. Despite this challenge, he was an inspiration to his family, friends, caregivers, and fellow residents at Rainbow Nursing and Rehab. His unwavering faith and kindness touched all who knew him.
Gary was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Frankie Davis Albright. He is survived by his son, Jonathan (Emma) Albright of Rogers, Arkansas; his brother-in-law, Mark (Liz) Davis of Memphis; and his cherished friends from his church and Sunday School, who has faithfully supported him with visits and encouragement.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rainbow Nursing and Rehab, Baptist Hospice, and the Christopher Reeve Foundation for their compassionate care and support.
A graveside service will be held starting at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 17th, at Memphis Memory Gardens at 6444 Raleigh Lagrange Road in Memphis, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Asha’s Refuge, or the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation, in honor of Gary’s legacy of strength and generosity.
