George John Vergos Sr.

George John Vergos passed away at St. Francis Park Hospital on March 2, 2011. Born on November 9 1929, in Memphis, TN, he was the son of John and Fotine Vergos. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Louise Ranks Vergos and brother, Charles J. Vergos. Left to cherish his memory are two brothers, Pete J. Vergos and Nick J. Vergos and three sons: George J. Vergos Jr., Charles G. Vergos, Theodore G. Vergos , all of Memphis; and a daughter, Mary Vergos Davis and her husband James K. Davis Jr. of Bartlett, TN. He was adored by his grandchildren: Courtney Sims (John), of Bartlett; Emily Wilson (Matt) of Greensboro, N.C.; Ryan Davis and Seth Davis of Bartlett; and great-grandchildren Carter Sims and Karmyn Wilson. For 33 years he was the owner and operator of George's Coffee Shop in the Dermon Building in downtown Memphis. The family would like to thank his many loyal employees and patrons for their concern and their prayers. The visitation is Sunday, March 6 at the Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Poplar Ave. from 3-6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, March 7 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be sent to the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.
