George Ash Whitten

GEORGE ASH WHITTEN, 81, of Memphis, passed from this life, Wednesday, February 5, 2014. Mr. Whitten was born May 20, 1932 in Lexington, MS to the late Millard and Annie Whitten. He served in the U.S. Navy and was retired after 50 years from Labor Relations for the U.S. Postal Service. Attended Desoto Hills Baptist Church and had previously attended Bellevue Baptist Church. George is survived by his wife, Patricia Whitten of Memphis, 3 daughters: Debbie Whitten Williams of Southaven, MS, Donna Whitten Chrestman of Nesbit, MS and Denise Whitten Bennett (Jon) of Southaven, MS, a stepson, Mark Thoda (Donna) of Saulsbury and a sister, Alice Floyd of Grenads, MS; grandchildren, Dacia Collins (Chris) Ashley Ingram, Kristin and Kody Chrestman, Jocelyn Bennett, Amber and Aaron Hasapis Trayce Thoda Finney, Billy and Dixie Thoda; great-grandchildren, Caylee, Dalainee and Whittnee Collins, Alley and Chaston Ingram. He was preceded in death by 2 sisters: Bert Campbell and Maggie Mott and 3 brothers: Paul, Jay and Burnice Whitten. Visitation will be 12 p.m. - 2 p.m., Sunday, February 9, 2014 with service at 2 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Poplar ave. Burial will follow in Twin Oaks Memorial Gardens in Southaven, MS.
