Gladys Hill Jordan, 92, of Memphis TN. passed away on November 21, 2012 surrounded by her family after a brief battle with brain cancer. She was born on September 27, 1920 in Blue Mountain, MS. She was a tall and beautiful woman who was proud that she was captain of her Blue Mountain High School Basketball team. She married the love of her life, James Russell Jordan, in 1941 and had a marriage filled with love for 55 years. He preceded her in death at the age of 80 in 1996. She leaves behind her loving daughters and their husbands, Jeannine and Steve Thevenot, Vicki and Rhett Anderson; three grandchildren, Alicia Vaughn and her husband, Ian, Jordan Anderson and Trent Anderson; three step grandchildren, Callie Thevenot Kemp and husband Michael, Sarah Thevenot and Emily Thevenot; two great-grandchildren, Ethan and Abigail Vaughn and her extended family, many of whom considered her an adoptive grandmother. They will all remember her faithful presence as a loving and attentive Meemaw. She was preceded in death by her parents Thomas H. Hill and Velora Evelyn Gordon Hill, her brothers and sisters, Roy Hill, Mable Hill Gaines, Perry Hill, Hazel Hill Cross, Henry Hill and Hatley Hill Ward. Gladys will be remembered by many as a loving selfless caretaker. She happily spent the last few years of her life at Germantown Plantation Senior Living with Gladys Streicher and Myrtle Holcombe, her lifelong friends, and her many new found friends. Some there called her inspirational, always impeccably dressed with a smile on her face and quickness in her step. She was a faithful member of Audubon Park Baptist Church and in lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Church at 4060 Park Ave., Memphis, TN 38111.
