

He was born in Atlanta, GA in 1929, and graduated from Boys High and Emory University. He earned a B.B.A. in Business, and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He worked for Buckeye Celluose Corporation for 27 years in Jackson, MS, Memphis, TN, and Corinth, MS (where he was a District Manager). He was also a commodities broker in Memphis for another 12 years.
He was married 54 years to the former Carolyn Carney Wilson of Atlanta, GA. They raised four children in Corinth, MS, where he was very active in his church and the community. He was a past president of the YMCA, Rotary Club, the 4-H Club Advisory Committee, and Hillandale Country Club. He was also a member of the Corinth Chamber of Commerce, the Corinth Junior Auxiliary Singers, and the Board of Trustees for Camp Dorothy Garrett. He coached Don Blassingame league baseball for 11 years, and was active in the Corinth Theatre Arts, where Corinthians would fondly remember him as Harold Hill in the production of the Music Man. He taught the young adults Sunday school class, was a member of the Council of Ministries and the Official Board, and sang in the Chancel Choir at First United Methodist Church in Corinth.
After moving to Memphis, he was active at Germantown Methodist Church, where he continued to sing in the choir and served on the Council of Ministries and Church Finance boards.
He belonged to the National Cotton Seed Products Association, the Mississippi Valley Oil Processors Association, the Southern Ginners Association, and the South East Ginners Association. He was an avid golfer, and had four hole-in-ones during his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Wilson Walters, his father, Harold Lee Walters, Sr., his mother, Agnes Stoner Walters, and his sister, Elizabeth Roberta Walters Walton. He is survived by his sister, Martha Walters Acker (Bill), his sons, Harold Lee Walters, III (Kelly) and Jeffrey Wilson Walters (Dede), and his daughters, Julie Walters Palermo (Mike) and Lindy Walters Potter (Blain). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Catherine Palermo Colson, Holly Mincy Shannon (Sparky), Amanda Palermo Jones (Isaac), Kayla Walters Russell (Joshua), Caroline Wilson Potter, Andrew Benjamin Lee Potter, and Joe Wilson Walters; and his great-grandchildren, Mahayla Carolyn Colson, Maralyn Kate Russell, Joshua Brandon Russell, Jr., Jackson James Russell, and Rush Sawyer Shannon.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, July 6, 2016, at 12 noon with funeral services conducted at 1 p.m. all at Germantown United Methodist Church, 2331 S. Germantown Rd., Germantown, TN. A reception will follow at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Church Health Center, 1210 Peabody Avenue, Memphis, TN 38104 or the American Cancer Society.
