

Former Memphis resident Eleni Demopoulos, age 79, passed away in Knoxville TN September 11, 2012 after a lengthy illness. For many years Eleni and husband Chris owned and operated Nick’s Cafe on Union Avenue in downtown Memphis. The second of four children of Nick (1892-1966) and Kalliope Heropoulos (1913-1965), Eleni was born in Apsalos, Greece and came to the United States at age 11 in 1945. Her family settled in Canton OH, where she married Memphis native Chris Demopoulos in 1962. They celebrated 50 years of marriage on September 9. Eleni was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Memphis and its Ladies Auxiliary and the Pontian Society Komninoi of Canton OH. Besides her parents, she is predeceased by brothers George and Aristotle. She is survived by husband Chris, daughter Demitra Keramidas, grandchildren Kalliope, Andreas, and Marina Keramidas, sister Bertha Price and favorite nephew Nicko Price of Canton OH, sister-in-law Maria Wasserman of Memphis, brother-in-law Jimmy Damon and sister-in-law Marilyn Damon of Chicago, and many other nephews and nieces in the US and Greece. Calling hours will be Saturday, September 15 from 10 to 11 AM at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church, 573 N. Highland Avenue, with the funeral to follow at 11 AM. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.
