

HERBERT BRYANT, JR., 80, of Germantown, TN, died peacefully at his home on November 6, 2011, after a valiant 20 year struggle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born in Memphis, TN on November 8, 1930 to the late Herbert and Mary Bryant. After serving in the Air Force, he joined his father in the Midtown grocery business, Bryant’s Grocery. He loved the grocery business and felt it was his mission to service the people of Midtown. In 1991, he reluctantly retired and enjoyed playing golf and growing roses. He was a lifelong member and deacon at Union Avenue Baptist Church. He leaves his wife of 60 years, Gwen Horton Bryant. He leaves his daughter, Margie Bryant Barmer (Bill) of Germantown; his son, Steven Herbert Bryant (Margaret) of Germantown; and his son, Larry Horton Bryant (Debbie) of Germantown, and four granddaughters, Hollen Barmer, Callen Barmer Sauls, Megan Bryant and Taylor Bryant. He leaves one sister, Betty Stewart of Olive Branch, MS and was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Reed. The family will be forever grateful for the loving care given by Lorraine Johnson and Keisha Crump. He will be remembered for how much he loved his family and how he served his community through his generosity in giving to the needy through his store. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 9 from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Ave., with funeral services, Thursday at 10 a.m. , also at the funeral home.
