Herman R. Stringer

Herman R. Stringer, 96, died Monday, June 27, 2011 in his Memphis home. Mr. Stringer was in the nursery business for over 75 years. He moved to Memphis in 1940 where he co-founded Stringer Brothers Nursery on Poplar Avenue. The end of an era has come as Mr. Stringer was the last of the Stringer brothers. He was a long term member of Bellevue Baptist Church. He was a Mason, a member of the Scottish Rite, and a former member of the Chickasaw Country Club. Mr. Stringer is survived by his wife of 72 years, Emily R. Stringer, his daughter, Sue S. Martin and her husband, Jerry, of Memphis, three sisters, Fannie Lee McCann of Jackson, MS; Helen Clinton of Little Rock, AR; and Therese Shawl of MS; granddaughters, Suzanne Padgett of Memphis; and Pamela Patteson of Germantown, and one great granddaughter, Paige Patteson. The family will receive friends at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens – Poplar Chapel on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. Funeral Services will begin at Poplar Chapel at 2:00 p.m. A burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
