Inez Couch Couch Bowie

INEZ COUCH BOWIE, 92, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at Olive Grove Terrace in Olive Branch, MS. Inez graduated from high school at Eudora, Mississippi and with her sister attended nursing school at Baptist Memorial Hospital. Following graduation, she was employed at the Marine Hospital in Memphis. Later she joined the Navy to serve as a nurse. At her first permanent duty station, Bethesda Naval Hospital, she served as a private duty nurse for Secretary of State Cordell Hull. Later she transferred to the Naval Hospital at Camp Lejune, where she met her future husband, Everette Bowie. After the birth of her children, she worked at Shelby County Health Department for twenty-two years until her retirement in 1981. She was predeceased by her parents, William Franklin (Dean) Couch and Nona McBrayer as well as her sister, Evelyn Louise Couch. She is survived by her husband, Everette Wayne Bowie; their two children, Janis Lynn Bowie Risley (Ron) of Memphis and Cheryl Evelyn Bowie Cavins of Olive Branch, MS, and their two grandchildren, Jason Cole Risley of Cordova and Jennifer Ann Risley Cahoon (Billy) of Richmond, VA. Visitation will be Thursday, April 26 from 5:30-8 p.m., and funeral services will begin at 10 a.m., Friday, April 27, all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 5599 Poplar Ave. Rev.
