

Jack Edward Farrell, 88, of Germantown, TN died July 9, 2012 at Baptist Memorial Hospital. He was born December 14, 1923 in Jacksonville, FL. A graduate of Landon High School in Jacksonville, he attended the University of Florida where he played basketball and was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. Jack left college to serve his country with the U. S. Marine Corps during WWII. After the war he returned home to attend Duke University, receiving a BBA in Business Administration. He later returned to the Marine Corps and to serve in the Korean War. He retired from Owens Illinois as regional manager, he was the local Score chapter president, a manufacturers representative for Baddour Memorial Center, Sgt. At Arms with the Memphis Rotary Club and was an avid supporter of Special Olympics. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Leila Howe Farrell, sons, Jack ”Jeff” Edwards Farrell, Jr., Michael Patrick “Mike” Farrell, Robert Fox “Bobby” Farrell and Thomas Steven “Tom” Farrell. A military service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Special Olympics of Greater Memphis or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
