

JACK GAIA, SR., 90, passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. He was born November 25, 1923 in Memphis, Tennessee, graduated from Christian Brothers High School in 1941, and went on to serve in the Army during World War II. After the war, he bought his first grocery store and served as a grocer until February 14, 1994. For forty-five years, Jack owned and operated “Jack;s Food Store No. 1” serving generations of loyal customers in the downtown area. His business became one of the oldest family owned establishments on Main Street. He was a genuine friend to his customer and treated them all like family. Jack was preceded in death by his son, Andy. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 70 years, Mary, and children, Jack, Jr., Dan (Patti), Madeline (Stewart), Mike and Tim. He is also survived by a five grandchildren, six great-grand-children, one brother, two sisters and many nieces and nephews. Visitation and rosary service will be held at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel, Saturday, April 5 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. A funeral mass will be held Monday, April 7 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Whitehaven, TN.
