

Mr. James J. Ligon, Jr. of Altamonte Springs, FL, formerly of Memphis, TN died May 16, 2013 at his home. He was 88. Mr. Ligon was born at home on Prairie Street in Okolona, MS in the early morning hours of November 30, 1924 to James J. Ligon, Sr. and Eloise Chandler Ligon. Mr. Ligon attended public schools in Okolona before entering into service during World War II. Following his induction into the United States Navy in 1943, Mr. Ligon was assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Bogue (CVE-9). Following the war Mr. Ligon was transferred from the USS Bogue to NAS Millington, TN for discharge. Mr. Ligon attended what is now the University of Memphis and went to work for the Memphis Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis where he met the love of his life, Marcelle Bilger. In 1953, Mr. Ligon joined the Hunter Fan Company of Memphis in the Sales Department. After enjoying various assignments at Hunter, he was assigned as the Regional Sales Manager in Florida in 1971
Survivors include his loving wife of almost 59 years, Marcelle Bilger Ligon of Altamonte Springs, FL; sons James B. Ligon and wife Mary of Albany, GA and John P. Ligon and wife Brandi of Altamonte Springs, FL; grandson, Richard A. Ligon and wife Devonne of Arcadia, FL; granddaughters, Margaret V. Ligon and Anna R. Ligon of Albany, GA; a brother, Robert Knox Ligon, Sr. and his wife Rachel of Memphis, TN; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 in the chapel of Memphis Funeral Home, Memphis, TN beginning at 2:00PM. Visitation will be at the funeral home from 12:00Noon until the service hour. Interment will be in Memorial Park.
