Jiang John Chen

He is survived by his father, Liangqing Chen of Lakeland, TN; his brother, Hai Chen of Los Angeles, CA; his wife, Jiali Gu of Lakeland, TN; his children, Ian Chen and Mia Chen. He is predeceased by his mother, Jinxiang Deng of Lakeland, TN.

John Chen was born on Sept. 16, 1974 to Liangqing Chen and Jinxiang Deng, in Guilin, China. He moved to the U.S. and settled in Memphis, Tennessee in 1992, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Memphis in 1998. Soon after, he married his high school sweetheart, Jiali Gu, in 1998. After a few years of employment at Memphis Light, Gas and Water, he joined Sunshine Enterprise, Inc. as COO. He and the founder, Wei Chen, made Sunshine Enterprise a success and a fast-growing company focused on the wholesale and distribution of Chinese construction and industrial equipment.

John was full of positive energy throughout his life. Not only did he show diligence and leadership at work, he also worked selflessly and tirelessly to help the communities around him. From serving as the Class President in the middle school, the president of the Chinese Student Association in the University of Memphis, to the Chairman of the Greater Memphis United Chinese Association, John made this world a better place in as many ways as he could.

He was a spiritual man and involved in many church activities. John served as a Deacon of the Highland Church of Christ Chinese Ministry and was a member of the Highland Church of Christ China Mission Team. John’s business interests often took him to China where he encouraged Christians, churches, and missionaries.

At home he was a devoted husband and father. His family was the most important part of his life.

John and his energy will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at 4:30 PM, Wednesday, January 2, 2019, in the Life Center of the Highland Church of Christ, 400 N. Houston Levee Road, Cordova, TN. Services will be held at 6:00 PM in the same location on January 2, 2019.
