Hey Daddy, 
My life hasn't been the same since you went to be in Heaven.  I know you constantly are watching over me.  I can see you "whispering" in God's ear to give me the Best, nothing more and nothing less..just give her the best!  I really appreciate that Daddy!  You surround me no matter which way I turn.  You are with me when I sleep, at work, while driving in my car, no matter where I am, you are there with me.  I have talked with you since the day you left this earth.  I am finally understanding why God allowed the days left of your life those 25 months of your illness, to be the most "precious" months.  You had asked me to get myself right when you were still here and because of my disobedient stage, and unfaithfulness, and most of all, my UNFORGIVENESS that no one could get my attention.  Well, Daddy, I am finally here.  I may not be able to attend church on Sundays but I have been in God's word, been praying, and in a bible study @ Central, been counseling with Ellen, just can't get enough of God's works.  I have a daily devotion.  I now know that God has been working on me for the last 4&1/2 years.  I never saw hope but now I do.  It took me thru all of the heartache in my lifetime to get me here...today...where GOD wants me to be.  I've forgiven things that I held onto for years which crippled me and my faith...I'm here...and God is happy...so am I...and I know you are...because the seat that you have been saving for me by your side in heaven, I have "accepted"...that I will be there in God's timing...Thank you Daddy, for never giving up on me.  I love you and can't wait to see you again!!!!!

        You already know this but i still have them days.i keep a picture of you in my binder.i will miss you so much!our school had a spirit week and i wore 2 of shirts and a pair of your Pj's pants.<3 your are always on my mind. This past fathers day we had to go to state cheer competition i wish you were there. Daddy was pretty sad that day. I gave him a scrapbook of him and you and one of him and me. MeeMee helped me make him them. I miss you so much,i wish i could see you right now. But i know you are in a better place. Air hugs and kiss

Dear Johnny,

I have to say thanks, for your sweet spirit, your deep familial love, your caring for others, your humor, and your courage.  What a role model you have been for the rest of us.  There was never a doubt that you placed your faith in God, and that God had your back.  What a blessing it was to have spent time with you in Memphis 18 months ago.  I am so thankful for that and for the opportunity to meet sweet Carol.  I'm so glad she was there with you through your illness.  I also really enjoyed connecting with your kids and their families again.  You did a  great job raising them.   Sometimes I imagine a giant cloud with all the Walkers who are in Heaven lying down on it and looking over the edge at all the Walkers that are yet to come join them.  I just know in my heart that all are so pleased that their legacy of love left to them by their parents and passed on to us is continuing to be passed on.  We will miss you so much at the reunion this year, but we know that you are at a special reunion in Heaven, and hanging on that cloud watching all of us.  You are so loved by your immediate family and your extended family!  My dad spoke so lovingly of you.  He thought the world of you and the whole Walker clan.  Loved your emails, and it's hard to stop talking to you right now.  But, in closing, thanks for being my birthday twin!  I'll always think of you on "our birthday.". Too bad you were the older one!!  ;)

My PawPaw means the "world" to me!  He is the most amazing PawPaw in the ENTIRE WORLD!!!!

These past 2 months have been the best 2 months of my life because he has lived with me and my daddy and we have gotten to know each other better.

I'll never forget him because my PawPaw was and is "The BEST PawPaw EVER!!!!

I first met Johnny in Mr. Bradley's sunday scholl class at Bellevue Baptist when were 16 or 17 years old. In 1960 I went to work at National Bank of Commerce and there was Johnny. Johnny and I worked together until he retired. I was one of Johnny's monthly Wednesday lunch bunch. Johnny prayed for me and I prayed for him. When I think of Johnny, I remember a Saturday in the mid-60's. We working in the the old bank building, the elevator opened and Johnny rides off on his little red/silver Honda motorcycle. I will miss Johnny. All of you are in my prayers. God bless you.

A wonderful, kind and considerate person who was a joy to visit with - even at tax time - we would visit about Ole Miss football and fishing

Happy Easter Daddy!  We all went to church this morning and people are still approaching us and hugging us and tell us that we are still in their prayers.  Each one tells us how much they miss you too! I met a sweet lady this morning and she hugged my neck and looked me in the eyes and said she wished she had had a father like you!  I looked at her and told her that I appreciated her saying so and as blessed I was to have had you as my daddy; that I wish I could find a husband like you were. After church, we had lunch at Trisha's & David's.  And as usual, Charlie kept everyone in stitches with his great sense of humor (just like you).
  
I miss you so much and I tell you that everyday!  
This past weekend we got all 3 PODS unloaded and most of the boxes unloaded & put away.  We still have about another weekends worth of work (or more) but we will get everything done just the way you would have done it.  We all are rallying around Carol and lifting her up the best we can.  She is such a "trooper" and "fighter" just like you were.  She is loved so much!

My Hero

First of all I want to thank each and every one of you for coming today.  My dad is up in heaven right now looking down at all his friends and family with a big smile on his face.  We were asked to tell a story or something about our dad that meant something to us.  I sat down to do this and said how do I tell one thing about my dad that says everything that you want to say in your life time in one story.  It can't be done!  My dad was my super hero.  He was the man that I want to be.  He was a very simple man who loved to fish, hunt, Nascar, Dale Earnhardt was his favorite driver, working with his hands, fixing things and anything that had to do with nature, he had a great sense of humor(funny), he loved to be with his kids,grandkids, all his friends, and his family.  My dad was a quiet man.  If you wanted to know something he would tell you but he was going to tell you exactly what he thought and he would not sugar coat it.  That was something that I really loved about him.  If he said something to you or said that he was going to do something he did it and you could bank on it.  I could always depend on him to give me the advice or tell me how to do anything that I wanted or needed help with.  For being a simple man, he was one of the smartest men that I have ever known.  He knew stuff that you could not even imagine.  If you asked him something he could tell you who, what, where, when, and how and if he didn't know he would find out and he would know the next time you saw him.  I learned so much from my dad.  He was a loving man.  He loved so many people and would do anything for them.  The later it got in Pop's life the more I saw this.  He was like a magnet.  I watched him with his nurses in the hospital and noticed the little things.  Things like when he was on deaths bed and a nurse would walk in he would hold each nurses hand and he would look them in the eye and tell them thank you for taking care of me.  And he would tell them that he loved them and he meant it.  I knew that look, I have seen it all my life.  He meant every word that he said and sometimes the words were very hard to hear but to his last breathe he was reaching out to people.  I think that was one of the reasons God let dad survive 2 years ago when he was so sick.  He was not done using dad to reach and teach others.  When nurses come in on their days off just to see how dad was doing and to visit with us that told me that God was reaching people through dad.  I also think God allowed dad to survive from being so sick 2 years ago for us(his family and friends).  Dad had never really been sick ever until he got the news that he had AML.  If dad would have died 2 years ago it would have crushed us.  God gave us the last 2 years to spend time with him and do the things that we didn't do before he got sick.  I wish that dad could have done everything that he wanted to do but I know that the chemo took a lot out of him.  I wish we could have taken him hunting and I know he wanted to go but the chemo was just too much for him to go into the woods with us.  I hated that because I know in my heart that he wanted nothing more than to be with us.  But I know as a family we pulled closer together and grew closer than we have ever been before.  God showed us how to love one another through dad.  Dad knew that he was very, very sick but never gave up the fight.  That was something else that I already knew about my dad, he was a fighter.  He had a very cool nature about him.  I can say this because I know that this has been passed on to all of his kids.  My sister, my brother, and I follow in our fathers footsteps as being fighters.  We take things in and hold them in until we can't hold them anymore and then we fight.  Dad is my hero because just like Superman he fought off all of his battles and won.  But just like Superman everyone has their Kryptonite.  I watched my dad fight AML and beat it the first 2 years and I know that the only way that he won that fight was through Jesus Christ.  I know that the doctors and the nurses did not think that dad would make it through his first visit in the hospital but he did.  That told them that he was a fighter.  I do have to say that I am so thankful that God allowed us to have Dr. Gravenor(Dad's Dr.) in our lives.  He never stopped believing in dad and always fought side by side with dad.  I just wanted to say thank you for that.  I also wanted to thank his staff of nurses for what they did for pops during the last 2 years of his battle with AML.  I could not have asked for better care for him.

I could go on and on about my dad, but we would be here all day.  I just want to say one last thing about him.  If you ever got to know my dad, and you really knew him, you would know this.  If you were to ask me the one thing that stuck out that I would remember for the rest of my life about my dad I would say, "It was the way he shook your hand".  I don't know if it was just me but when I would shake his hand it was like no other hand shake.  It was like my hand fit in his and his in mine and he would grip your hand and look you in the eye like no one else I have ever met.  Every time that I ever left my dad I would shake his hand and sometimes I would hug him and kiss him but he would tell me that he loved me.  The last time I saw him alive I shook his hand, told him that God was with him, He said, "I know He is"; told him that I loved him, and gave him a kiss.  He told me he loved me too and he gave me that special squeeze with his hand.  I will never forget the feeling of his hand in mine.  That is what I would say is my special moment with my dad.

For the last two years, my Pawpaw has been one of the strongest people I have ever known.  In my eyes, and I'm sure in other's eyes, my Pawpaw has been a miracle and a gift from God.  He has fought his hardest and has proven to many people that he was not a quiter.  I used to love when he would come to my shows to hear me sing because he called me his little songbird.  But I know someday we will all be in heaven together rejoicing and singing together.  Pawpaw will always be missed and loved....can't wait for the day I see him again!!

I would like to thank everyone for coming today to celebrate the life of my Father.  Everybody that knew him I think would agree, he was quite an extraordinary man.  He was a very smart, hardworking, loving, and caring man.  I am blessed to have him as a Father and more than that my BEST friend. 

I got to spend a lot of time with my Dad, hunting, fishing, working around the house, and just hanging out.  He used to tell me he didn't care what we were doing, he just enjoyed spending time with me and being out side.  It didn't seem to matter weather it be fixing something at the house or just one of life's problems, I could call my Dad and he would be there to help and coach me through it.  

Over the past few years, Pops and I got to talk a lot. I figured out in a lot of ways we are alike (OCD) and some what different too.  He was mostly quite and I well, we will just say you don't have to wonder what I'm thinking.  He loved me in spite of that. 

I asked him several times, usually after I had voiced my opinion about something, how he could just sit there and not say anything?  He would tell me, Son sometimes it's better to be thought of as a fool, than to open ones mouth and remove the doubt.  (Pops I'm still working on that one.)

I have so many memories and stories that I will cherish from now on.  I can go from here and try to be the example of a Dad that he was to me to my daughter.  Those are some really big shoes to fill. 

Pops loved life and when he got sick he fought with EVERYTHING he had.  He gave it EVERYTHING he had for 25 months!  In the end, he was so sick, he wouldn't quit.  He was no longer fighting for himself (because he knew where he was going), but he was fighting for us, his family.  

I know on 2/27/13 at 3:00, God looked down and saw Pops sick and worn out and said "Pops you have fought well, you have finished the race.  It's time to come home my good and faithful servant." 

Pops I'm going to miss you like CRAZY!  You know how much I love you and I know someday we will be together again.

Where do I even begin?

January 1, 1940, John Raymond Walker was the first baby born in Memphis, TN.  That is "special" to me! Daddy came into this world 73 years ago special and he certainly made an "exit" extremely special!

My Daddy was the most respected and compassionate individual's I have ever known.  He was loved by so many and very easy to love.  He was the smartest man I have ever met.  He knew something about everything and if he didn't know; (which was very rare) he would find out and tell you the next time he saw you.  There was nothing he couldn't do or fix or make or build.  Daddy loved working with his hands.  His many talents were over-whelming.

Daddy loved nature and being outdoors.  He loved birds and had  built several birdhouses.  He knew every bird by their chirp.  He loved to fish, hunt, and loved fellowshipping with the "boys"!

Daddy was STRONG!  Oh, how very strong!  He was strong in his love; his discipline; his faith; his passions; his work; and his character.  But most of all "HIS FAMILY"!
Daddy was so proud of all 3 of his kids and he loved to brag on how well rounded we were and our "STRONG" work ethic. (which he in-stealed).  He would say, "I'll put my kids up against anybody's" and he was quite confident that Charlie, David, and I would come out on top!

Daddy loved LIFE!  These last 2 years truely proved it.  Daddy was a fighter and he fought the fight until the bitter sweet end.  Even when he was not given much hope, he kept his faith, hope, love, and was used by GOD to be a witness to other's taking care of him.  Every floor that Daddy was on (and he was moved a lot) the nursing staff all fell in love with him and followed him throughout his hopsital stay.

Daddy was the kind of father that ALL boys would love to have had and all of us girls searched for one just like him.  And someone as "SPECIAL" as my Daddy was hard to find.  Sissy and Trisha found one!  I love you both so much!

These past 2 years have brought this family so close and Pops would have it no other way.  God used his illness to strengthen our faith in God; our love for one another; and bound us together with an "unbreakable thread".

One of my fondest memories these past 2 years was the Saturday that Charlie, David, Daddy, and I sat in Pop's garage and we all asked each other for forgiveness; and this was well over-due and very much necessary.

Daddy, I LOVE YOU WITH ALL OF MY HEART! MY LOVE FOR YOU IS FROM INFINITY TO INFINITY!  You are going to be missed beyond measure!

My daughter Samantha loves her Pawpaw so much!  Pawpaw was the one she would go to if she needed the answer to something that her Daddy and I couldn't answer. (which was quite often) Even if we thought we knew the answer, she would have to verify with Pawpaw! Her Pawpaw was the smartest person in the world!  He hung the moon in Samantha's eyes and in most peoples eyes that knew him.  Pawpaw we love you so much and we miss you more than words can explain.  Give Lucky a kiss for us (and Precious too)! I regret I did not have the privilege of knowing your Dad.  From all accounts at the memorial service, he was loved by so many.  But in a way I felt like I knew him because I heard so much that reminded me of my Dad.  They both loved God first, family second.  Your Dad, like mine, believed in hard work, honesty, and leaving a legacy of love that would be passed down not only to his children but to his grandchildren. As another of the Walker clan from 'out west' in Oklahoma, I only got to see Johnny at family reunions, but I would remember him because he was friendly and engaging. I'm so glad Joyce and I got to be at the reunion in 2011 in Southaven and visit the homestead near Coffeeville with Johnny showing us around. Our hearts go out to Carol, Lisa, David and Charlie and their families. Know that we will keep you in our prayers.

I can't find the words to write about Johnny, but am certain he is laughing in heaven about leaving me speechless. He radiated family love, appreciation, and humor. Let's follow his example. Love and prayers to Carol, Lisa, David, and Charlie.

I never had the good fortune to meet "Pops", but I knew he was an awesome man by the gleam in Lisa's eyes every time she spoke of her Daddy. During the service, listening to the children and grandchildren speak of him, there were no doubts he was a loving, Godly man capable of moving mountains with his faith. I prayed deligently for his comfort during his illness, and now I pray for comfort for his family and especially for my dear friend Lisa. If ever you need me, I'm here. Much love to your entire family.

My sweet "Pops" will be truly missed.  He was one of a kind!  I always teased him about filling all the shoes that he did for me! (a joke between him and I)  He was more than Pops to me he was a true dear friend that I could always go to and depend on. My heart aches for my Mom and my husband and for this entire family. Thanks to our Lord and Savior, we will see him again. Until then, I will miss you terribly Pops!  All my love, Sissy

I met Pops through Charlie and Sissy. Samantha and my daughter, JoyAnn, have grown up together and immediately I felt like part of their family! Pops and Ms Carol have made us feel so loved and you just feel good in their presence! I will miss his sweet smile and his great hugs!! I'll continue praying for Ms Carol and the rest of his family, I know they will miss him more than I can imagine, I'll miss him too! I love Pops and Ms. Carol and all of the family!

A lot has been said about Johnny Walker. I would just like to say this about Johnny; I looked forward to being around Johnny Walker, because he would always brighten my day.

All of us who worked with Johnny enjoyed working with him. I was part of his work family for 25 years  because we spent so much time together keeping the computer system updated and running at NBC/Commerce General. He was a great person to work with and my thoughts and prayers will be with all of his family.

Carol and everyone, my heart is with you as you go through missing your sweet husband, father, grandfather, etc. Just the little bit I knew of him was very sweet. He was always scared that he hurt my feelings by asking about my husband, who is deceased, but it didn't bother me at all. I loved the way he helped so faithfully at the church with that crazy job of putting up the Christmas trees. He always seemed so pleasant and helpful and patient, while that job would drive most people crazy! Both Johnny and Carol worked tirelessly to get that church looking dazzling for Christmas. We will miss him for his sweet smile and servant heart. I'm so sorry for your loss! But God is able to heal your hurt and to leave you with hope and joy in the knowledge that you will be united again in a much better place! God bless you all.

Our prayers go out to Carol and family.  My husband new Carol he is Betty & Gene Butler's grandson.  Thou I may have not known Carol or John really well, but in the few times of meeting them you could tell they were heart warming people.  I remember seeing pictures of them and Betty& Gene looks like the always had a great friendship.

I only knew Johnny a short time. I'm the one who bought his house in Olive Branch this past December. I have never met a more dignified, polite and courageous man in my life. After spending only a couple hours over a couple days, I was totally comfortable with Johnny and Carol. I will miss him and wish my wife and I could have spent time with him. God made a beautiful man and a beautiful wife for him in Carol. I wish her peace.

We knew when we went back for our Doctor visit  last Monday that something was wrong.  We asked and was told ya'll were at Hosptial and things weren't well.    I tried to call and speak to you in waiting room.  This touches our hearts so much.   Larry went today heard that Johnny had gone Home.   Larry looked so forward to seeing Him each visit.  Our Men have fought courageous battles.  Larry will one day be with Mr. Johnny again and they will be telling tall tales as Men do.  We love ya'll   Larry and Barbara Roberson

I am so sorry for your loss.  I knew I could always turn to Johnny when I had a problem at NBC Knoxville Bank.  Even if it wasn't in his department, he took the time to explain who I needed to call or what I needed to do.  When I moved to Memphis, he even let me sit in his department until they found a place for me.  He was a great man and I know how much you will miss him.

I thank God for allowing me to be a friend of Johnny's. He is a TRUE friend. You could talk to Johnny for hours and never want to leave. I pray for all the family that God will comfort you in this time.

My heartfelt sympathy for your loss.  May our precious Lord give you peace and comfort during this time of mourning and may you find joy in the knowledge that your dad has gone "home".

Pops was the sweetest man.  Our family will miss him so very much. We have  many fond memories of time with him and your family.  He always made us feel so welcomed and loved at his home.  We love y'all.

Debbie and I are sorry to hear of Johnny's passing. When I first came to Commerce General, Johnny was the one who helped make this "outsider" one of the family. Johnny didn't want a retirement party so we invited a few people to a retirement party that wasn't. Johnny was a valued friend and co-worker to both of us and we are sorry for the loss we all feel.

I will always have a special place in my heart for Johnny, he was the best neighbor. I remember him bringin over a birdhouse that he made for us when we moved in. We would sit on his tailgate of the truck on those summer nights and just talk about everyday life. He was a blessing in our life and will truly be missed. I pray for peace and comfort for the family

Johnny was such an inspiration to my husband and I. He was an swesome man. He brought over a bird house that he made me when we first moved in next door, we would sit outside at night and just talk about everyday life. He will truly be missed and my heart goes out to the family.

Johnny and my dad, Bill, were as close as brothers. And Johnny loved to "pick on" me, which I took as a great compliment. He always made me laugh. I always loved hearing my dad's stories of the two of them and their fathers hunting in Coffeeville. I am so grateful I got to sit in the back seat of the truck as the two of them reminisced on the way to Coffeeville at last year's Walker Family Reunion.
