Well, it still seems like Mr. Wesley should be here so we could talk every few weeks or so.  He would always call to tell me who had passed away, and then he would not understand why I did not know most of these people.  I miss his humor and wisdom a lot.  However, I know he is enjoying his Heavenly home.  He was a vey nice gentleman and a good and trusted friend.    Sandra C. Hamilton

Sending love and prayers to the family and friends of Mr. John E. Wesley. I will always remember him as a wise man that loved his son and grandkids. My fondest memory is when Mr. John was trying to figure out his new phone and he kept making jokes about Daryl and whether or not he understood new technology. I’ll always cherish those funny moments. May he live on in our hearts forever. Rest in love. 🕊️

I still miss Mr. Wesley.  We would have telephone conversations at least every two or three months.  He would tell me everyone who had departed this life and try to make me know him or her.  We talked about foods that we liked, etc.  Every time was filled with his wisdom amidst humor.  He was such a wise man, and he freely gave his advice.  I enjoyed working as a teacher under him when he was a principal at Northside, and I treasure the friendship we maintained after that time.  He dearly loved his family -especially his son and grandchildren.  Mr. Wesley will never be forgotten!                                                  Sandra C. Hamilton

Well, it has been almost a year since my former boss and friend left us.   I really miss our short telephone talks about every month or so:  We could talk and laugh about practically anything.  Mr. Wesley had a way of mixing sound wisdom with humor -- a lesson could be learned from what he said.  I really miss him --just knowing that he is here.

Mr. Wesley was remembered by TSU Regional Conference this past weekend. He was a great supporter of TSU. He had a smile that made everybody feel good.

I am just now finding out that Dr. Wesley, passed away. I have currently be living and working on New York,for past 3 years.
Dr. John Wesley, was kind gentle, brilliant, and generous. He did not judge people and always believed individuals could change for the better through education and discipline. 
I loved him as father figure that gave wisdom and knowledge to me. Even at my lowest points in life. I can only hope and aspire to be the father, husband and educator he was.


I'm so sorry that I'm  just now hearing of his passing.  Mr. Wesley was our principal at East High when we were combined with Lester.  I spent a lot of time with him and he was a great principal but, more significantly,  a wise and wonderful man.  Over the summer after my junior year, I came up with a project to raise money for student government by serving soft drinks to the summer school students  on break (there was no AC, so they were popular).  Mr. Wesley approved the plan [on the condition that 1/2 the profits went to the booster club] but he lent me his car to get supplies (that couldn't happen today) and helped me serve them.  He was the first example I saw of leading by doing what needs to be done.   He had a great deal of wisdom about life -- I loved hearing the stories of how when he was in college, he would ask his father for extra money and he would get the oldest, worst looking dollar bills you can imagine- so he could appreciate that money is not always easy to come by (and think twice about asking for extra again).    We talked pretty frankly about where the world was (and where it had been).  For a white kid growing up in Memphis [desegregation was pretty new still],  I learned a great deal about the world that I'd never known.   In sum, he was both a gentleman and a gentle man and  I (like many others) am so much the better for having known him.   Tock McRae East High Class of 75

With deepest sympathy! Mr. Wesley was such a wise, kind, stern disciplinarian but yet easy going & wanted only the best for his students. He was the best principal. The Northside High school C/O 86 send our deepest condolences & prayers for the Lord to strengthen and comfort your hearts like only he can do🙏🏾❤️ 

Mr. Wesley was such an amazing man. I recognized him as a mentor because he made such an impact in education as a dynamic teacher and school leader. He may not have known this, but he motivated me to be the best principal I could be! I’m so grateful for the times I spent with him, and I could only hope that I made him proud also. I’m grateful for the friendship that Darryl and I have, and I know that he really loved his son.  I will continue to pray for my friend, Darryl, and his family during this time of bereavement and beyond. 🙏🏽🕊 -Dr. Lakishia Robinson

Class of ‘84

Mr. John Ed Wesley was a man of distinction.  He was a great high school teacher and administrator.  He loved his students and showed a genuine love for people in general.  It was my pleasure to have served as an English teacher at Northside High School with Mr. Wesley as my principal.  He was always direct, professional, and encouraging.  As the years progressed, I  found Mr. Wesley to be a man who dearly loved his family --especially his son, Darryl.  He was a loyal friend, trustworthy confidante, and humorous advisor.   I will miss just knowing that Mr. Wesley was  a phone call away.  His family is in my sincere thoughts and prayers.  May the Lord grant them the strength they will need in the days ahead.    

May God comfort the family during this difficult time. Mr. Wesley was a supporter of TSU and friend to Mr.Willie B. Jones, Sr.

Mr. Wesley was quite a man. I truly admired him as a husband, a father to his son, an educator and most of all a true man of God. Mr. Wesley was one of a kind and will truly be missed by all that knew him. If you didn’t know him you missed out on meeting a WONDERFUL man. 

Much love and respect goes out Mr. John E. Wesley and his entire family.

Photo was taken April 3rd of this year. Pops walked upstairs and said he wanted to attend church today. God is so great. Pops hasn’t been to church in over 2 years,  strength was given to him and he entered His house one last time. Say it ain’t true.🙏
