Judith Lawson Johnson

A graduate of The Hutchison School, Smith College and Duke's graduate Masters. Judy began her professional journey as a schoolteacher before transitioning into the world of finance. She worked as a commodities trader on the Chicago Board of Trade, where her talent was recognized in the 1970s when she was named among the top 100 young women in finance in the United States.

Later, Judith moved with her company, Howard Weil, to New Orleans before returning to her hometown of Memphis, where she lived until her passing.

Judith had a keen eye for style that reflected her care and creativity. Her nieces and nephews were blessed by her handiwork as she made elegantly tailored clothes for them over the years.

Judy was a lifelong member of Idlewild Presbyterian Church.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Memorial Park Funeral Home & Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Ave, Memphis, TN 38119. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Idlewild Church.
