Lois Faye Hill Acklen, 72, passed away peacefully at home on February 9, 2018, and immediately went to meet Jesus, her Lord and Savior, face-to-face. Being welcomed into the kingdom of heaven was something she had longed for, after becoming a Christian. She was a devoted, faithful wife, a loving mother, an encourager and playmate to her grandchildren, as well as an inspiration to all who knew her. This lady was a fighter to the very end and was determined that cancer was not going to keep her from doing everything she wanted to do, when she wanted to do it. She was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2010. She went through five months of chemo treatments and joyfully rang the bell at West Clinic signifying she was cancer-free in October of that same year. In February of 2016, she was diagnosed as having metastatic breast cancer in her liver. She was one tough lady enduring six types of chemo looking for one that would shrink or stabilize that cancer. All of those earthly treatments failed, but in heaven today, she is healed with no more pain and no more cancer. She was born May 19, 1945, in Memphis, TN, to the late James William and Margie Marie Hill and is survived by her brother, David (Pat) Hill of Broken Arrow, OK. Lois was an active member of Kirby Woods Baptist Church and former member of Broadway Baptist Church. She was a co-founder of the Piece-Makers quilting group at KWBC and a member of the Uncommon Threads Quilt Guild. She studied God’s Word at Bible Study Fellowship for many, many years. She loved her family, church, studying God’s Word, sewing, quilting, gardening, and helping others. She made the best cinnamon rolls you have ever eaten and was always giving them to friends she loved. Lois was married to her husband, Tommy Acklen, for 52 years and missed their 53rd anniversary by only 45 days. She was the secretary and encourager to a senior adult Sunday School class that Tommy has taught for 27 years. Both were blessed with two children, Theresa (John) Phillips of Cordova and Wayne (Lisa) Acklen of Franklin, TN. Her grandchildren include Justin Acklen, Michelle Phillips, Caroline Acklen, and Jonathan Phillips. She dearly loved her family and prayed for them daily as she began each day studying God’s Word. Visitation will be at Memphis Funeral Home (5599 Poplar Ave.) on Friday, February 16th, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.; and the funeral will be held Saturday, February 17th, at 10:00 a.m. at Kirby Woods Baptist Church (6325 Poplar Ave.). Lois will be laid to rest at Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Avenue. Feel free to wear pink in honor of her valiant fight against breast cancer. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Susan G. Komen® Memphis-MidSouth Mississippi Foundation or the Christian organization of your choice.
