Marilyn Calhoun Blair, 72, of Collierville, Tennessee, passed away on November 15, 2022, at Methodist University Hospital. Marilyn was born July 25, 1950 in Memphis, the only daughter of Howard and Sue Calhoun. Marilyn graduated from Hillcrest High School in Whitehaven, Tennessee, then attended Union University for one semester before transferring to Mississippi State University. What would have been her final semester at MSU was spent making wedding plans for her subsequent marriage to James M. Tidwell and relocating to Richmond, Virginia, where Jim was employed by the State of Virginia as a landscape architect.
Marilyn and husband, Jim, departed Virginia for Sarasota, Florida, where Jim had accepted employment with his best friend and college roommate and Marilyn began her first job working in the banking industry. The next few years saw great professional advancement for Marilyn in a succession of jobs where her skills were enhanced and developed more into office management and executive assistance. These successes were accompanied by personal discord and divorce. However, as usual, Marilyn adjusted and made the decision to return to Memphis where she accepted employment at Burch, Porter & Johnson, PLLC remaining there until her retirement.
Marilyn’s early retirement years were spent caring for her terminally ill mother and undergoing her own kidney transplant. The next few years saw the passing of her two brothers, Howard and Hank, and her stepfather, Col. John Bohnet. Marilyn’s final chapter began in 2019 when she and her surviving husband, Steve Blair, were reunited in Memphis and resumed the friendship that had been on hold since 1980 quickly leading to marriage and unparalleled happiness for the pair.
Rest in peace, sweet Marilyn.
