MARY KATHERINE LOWE McDONALD entered her eternal home in Heaven on April 28, 2015, and joined her adoring husband of 69 years, John R. “Jack” McDonald, Jr., who predeceased her in 2010. She was born on March 3, 1922, in Memphis, Tennessee, to Mary Field Lowe and John Martin Lowe. Besides being pre-deceased by her parents, Mary Katherine was also predeceased by her two sisters, Dorothy Lowe Wright and Margie Lowe Simpkins. After her graduation from Central High School, she and Jack married on August 16, 1941, and she spent the early years of her 69-year marriage as an Army wife while Jack served in the Army Air Corps during WWII. She was an active member of the Beethoven Club, the Maternal Welfare League, and the Garner Circle of the Kings’ Daughters. Besides being a 50+ years’ member of First Evangelical Church, Mary Katherine was also a longtime leader in Community Bible Study at Second Presbyterian Church. She spent most of her life as a homemaker, but in the 1960’s, she was the representative visiting new mothers in Memphis for Gerber Baby Foods. She loved traveling the city, visiting new mothers, and presenting them with Gerber gift baskets filled with baby food and other items for newborns. In the 1970’s, she sold insurance for Continental Southern Insurance to the medical students at the UT College of Health Sciences. She also worked as a receptionist at Warren’s Hair Stylists. Following a stroke in 2001, she courageously maintained her activities as much as possible and especially looked forward to her monthly gatherings with the “He Cares” group at First Evan. She was the loving mother of Kathy McDonald Kallaher and John R. “Bobby” McDonald III (Carrie Jeanne) of Memphis. Our Mimi is also survived by eight grand-children, including Jay (Cynthia), John, and Karen Kallaher, all of Memphis; and Maureen McDonald, Michelle McDonald Wagner (Jon), Melissa McDonald, Mike McDonald, all of Memphis, and Rob McDonald of Knoxville. Her six great-grandchildren, of whom she was so very proud are Daniel, Matthew, Andrew, Meghan and Colin Kallaher and Hudson Wagner, all of Memphis. The family wishes to thank the Memphis Jewish Home and extend appreciation for the outstanding love and care the Baptist Trinity/ Reynolds Hospice House in Collierville provided to Mary Katherine and her family. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in honor of Mary Katherine may be sent to First Evangelical Church at 735 Ridge Lake Blvd., Memphis, TN 38120; Riveroaks Reformed Presbyterian Church at 1665 S.
