Mary Lee Strode

Mary Lee Strode, 87, entered into heaven on August 1, 2016. She graduated from Central High School. She earned her Master’s degree from Memphis State University and received her undergraduate from Old Miss; she also attended Texas Woman’s University. She was a professor of English for over 20 years at State Tech and also taught at Hutchinson School in Memphis. She was a founding member of Ridgeway Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Her passions were evangelism and pro-life work.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Duncan Black and Nora Lee Harrison Black, and her husband, Gilbert Strode Jr.

She is survived by daughters, Carol Lee Strode and Mary Patricia Strode; son, Gilbert Strode III (Kristi); and beloved grandson, Gilbert “Ivy” Strode IV.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 4, 2016 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 5, 2016 in the chapel of Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, TN. In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Mrs. Strode may be offered to Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary, 2095 Appling Road, Cordova, TN or to Ridgeway Baptist Church, 2500 Ridgeway Road, Memphis, TN.
