Marydell Richards Pollard, loving Daughter, Wife, Mother, Grand Mother and Great Grandmother was born June 5, 1931, in Memphis Tn. Marydell passed peacefully from this life on June 23, 2024, at the age of 93 years and 18 days with her son, Daughter in Law and friends by her side. The daughter of Clegg and Lilly Margaret Richards. Marydell married her high school sweetheart Elbert Pollard Jr. She and Elbert (E.D.) had 3 children, Linda Fritz (Richard Fritz deceased) of Arkansas, Deborah Wallace (Tony Wallace) of Florida and Richard Pollard (Jennifer Noland Pollard) of Savannah Tn. She was the grandmother of 4 grandchildren, Sean Fritz, Mari Fritz, Chris Wallace and Nathan Hunter Pollard and 2 great grandchildren Aston Fritz and Emily Fritz. She was proceeded in death by her parents Clegg and Lilly Margaret, her husband Elbert and her Grandson Nathan Hunter. Marydell's greatest joy was her family. She loved horses and the outdoors. She was an active member of First Assembly of God Church. Working for over 30 years for the Memphis Police Department as a Neighborhood Watch Coordinator at both the Mt. Moriah Station (East Precinct) as well as the Tillman Station (Central Precinct) Mrs. Pollard carried on a long tradition with the Memphis Police Department that ran in her family from her Grandfather Jerome Richards who was the Chief of Police in the late 1800's and early 1900's, her Grandfather Jefferson Hart, Chief of the Mounted Patrol and her father, Chief of Detectives in the 20's through the 40's until contracting cancer and retiring, passing the tradition on to her Son Richard. Mrs. Pollard was considered a Mother and Grandmother to those she affectionately called her "boys and girls", the officers of the Memphis Police Department. After the death of her husband and upon retirement, Mrs. Pollard moved with her son Richard, Daughter in Law Jennifer (Jenny) and Grandson Hunter to Savannah Tn. where she once again was able to enjoy the outdoors, horses and became active in the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 2016 Mrs. Pollard was diagnosed with early stages of Alzheimer's but continued to enjoy life while being cared for by Richard, Jennifer and Hunter. Soon after the death of her grandson Hunter her battle with Alzheimer's began to progress but she fought to stay as active as she could with her Bandit by her side and a smile on her face. She will be deeply missed by the many who loved her and knew her as "The Sweet Southern Belle". We will be forever grateful for Raven Flores "The Southern Bell's" caregiver and "Jenny's right hand". The family would also like to thank Unity Hospice for the compassion in her final days. The family requests in lieu of flowers that any donations be made to the Officer Down Memorial Page which supports the families of Law Enforcement Officers killed in the line of duty.
