John Michael “Mike” O’Hearn - loving father, son, brother, uncle, colleague, and friend to countless loved ones – recently passed away unexpectedly due to natural causes in the comfort of his home in Memphis at the age of 49. He will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his son Maxwell O’Hearn, former wife Chloe Evans, his father Jack O’Hearn, brother Patrick and wife Sue O’Hearn, sister Kathleen and husband Billy Hendrickson of Roanoke, VA, nephews Davis and Connor O’Hearn, and Griffin and William Hendrickson, and cats Jalapeño and Buscemi. He also leaves behind several stepsiblings: Nicki Reid, Ryan Consul, Meagan Parenteau, and Raymond McGreger, as well as numerous other extended family. He is preceded in death by his mother Louise Griffin Blackwell, stepmother Dawn O’Hearn, and stepfather Michael Blackwell.
Mike was the Chief Operating Officer and a founding partner of Lokion, a Memphis-based full-service interactive firm that currently graces the downtown skyline. Born in Memphis, he grew up in Miami, Florida for several years before returning home during his middle school years. He graduated from White Station High School and attended the University of Memphis while beginning a successful career in technology in Memphis and the Washington D.C. area. Mike married Chloe in 1998 and their miracle baby Max was born in 2004. Mike and Chloe were soul mates for 20 years, a model for successful co-parenting, and remained life-long friends.
An avid gamer, mountain biker, diver, and race car driver, Mike loved anything that led to adventure. He loved being by the water, from scuba diving in the deep sea in Roatan to reading a book by his backyard pool. He also enjoyed family beach vacations on Anna Maria Island and weekends at the lake. Otherwise, you could find him at live music events with friends, which he joyfully noted were some of his fondest memories. Mike was a lifelong fan of sci-fi and fantasy games, books, film, and art. A down to earth, kind-hearted man, Mike never took himself too seriously and was admired for his great hair. Beloved by his colleagues and peers, he dedicated himself to the success of his business while guiding his colleagues toward their own individual success. Mike found the utmost joy from the simplest pleasures in life - but his absolute greatest joy was always his son, Max. Mike and Max loved to travel and adventure outdoors, play video games, and watch movies and tv together. Mike was so very proud of the adult Max is becoming.
Mike will be deeply missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and virtual communities. While Mike’s death comes as a great shock to all who knew him, he would want us to remember and share the good times and continue having good times together in his memory.
A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on Friday, July 28 at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. In lieu of flowers, we would love for donations to be sent to any of the following charities in Mike’s memory: CodeCrew https://www.code-crew.org/
