
MILDRED LaMALTA LYNN passed away at her home on November 25, 2010 after a short illness. Mildred was born on December 23, 1908 to Ruth W. LaMalta and Thomas L. LaMalta. She was preceded in death by her husband, James A. Lynn, her sister, Ruth LaMalta Connell and her brother-in-law, Dr. Eldon D. Connell. “Millie”, as she was known by her friends, was a member of the 1st Congregational Church where she served as organist and Choir Director for 48 years. She was a member of the American Guild of Organists, a member of The Association for the Preservation of Tennessee Antiquities and until recently volunteered as a docent at the Woodruff-Fontaine House. She was a loyal member of the Llewellyn Circle of the King’s Daughters and Sons Home for which she also served on the board of directors and for many years worked as a volunteer. She was a long-time member of the Beethoven Society and also served on it’s board. Millie was a patron and supporter of the Dixon Gallery and Gardens and one of the primary sponsors of their annual Christmas Open House. Millie was a great-great-great-granddaughter of John Sevier, the first Governor of Tennessee. Millie is survived by her God-daughter, Ann Fischer Byars and her husband, George Rice Byars, Sr. who have cared for her for many years, and her God-daughter, Carolynn Byars Lord and Godson, John Bowers. Services will be held at 1st Congregational Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 30. The family will receive friends at noon until the 1 p.m. Service time.
