

Morris J. Jones Sr., 94, of Memphis, went home to be with the Lord on July 14, 2010. He was born in Amory, MS to Morris B. and Maggie Jones. After graduating high school, he attended college at Southwest State Teachers College in San Marcos, TX. He majored in business before moving back to Amory after college and married Addie Mae Wardlaw. They moved to Memphis where he went to work for the William R. Moore Drygood Company. In 1935, he started his career for the L & N Railroad, retiring after 42 years of service in 1977. He was a member of the Traffic Club of Memphis. During this time, Morris was active in Gospel quartet singing. He sang many years in various church choirs. He also loved barbershop quartet singing and was a member of the S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. He was a member of First Evangelical Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Addie Mae Jones, daughter, Rebecca Jones Weller and two grandchildren, Adrienne Jones and Ross Key. He is survived by three children, Morris J. Jones, Jr., Judith J. Anderson and Guy Philip Jones, nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, two nieces,and one nephew. The family will receive friends Saturday, July 17 from 9-10 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 10 a.m., both at Family Funeral Care. Memorials may be sent to Crossroads Hospice.
