Patricia Ann Gardner Klinke Veglio

Patricia Ann Gardner Klinke Veglio (formerly Patricia Gardner Klinke) was born November 19, 1929, in Ripley, Tennessee, and died peacefully at home on January 8, 2015, in Memphis, Tennessee. Known to her friends as Pat, she was the daughter of Dr. Milo Fay Gardner and Hilda Christine Patton Gardner. A former "Miss Ripley," Patricia represented Ripley in the Cotton Carnival. She attended the University of Tennessee at Knoxville and graduated from Memphis State University. She married Prentice Fulton Klinke. They had two children: Kitt Klinke Sherrill and Jeffrey Patton Klinke. In 2009, Pat married Edward Ernest Veglio, who died in October 2014. Patricia was a member of Second Presbyterian Church. Pat was a tireless volunteer for Le Bonheur Children's Hospital. For decades, she was the Le Bonheur Club's top fundraiser -- known for the rum cakes she gave to donors. Every year, Pat served coffee on Christmas Day to the families of Le Bonheur patients. In 1998, the Le Bonheur Club founded the annual "Pat Klinke Award" in her honor. Methodist Healthcare Foundation honored her work for Le Bonheur with their "Living Award" in 2001. She was a former president of the Le Bonheur Club. She served on the boards of the Le Bonheur Children's Medical Center, the Memphis English-Speaking Union, and The International Group. She also served as President of the Memphis Salvation Army Auxiliary. Pat and her beloved granddaughter were Salvation Army volunteer bell ringers every Christmas. Pat was a charter member of the Women's Committee of Fifty (Symphony League), a former president of the Oak Grove Garden Club, and a member of the Josephine Circle. Patricia is survived by her son and daughter, granddaughter Amanda Patton Sherrill, niece Kerry Ann Gardner, and nephew Scott Gardner. Visitation will be Sunday January 11th from 6-8 p.m. at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Avenue. Her service will be at their chapel on Monday January 12th at 1 p.m., followed by burial at Memorial Park. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
