Robert Eugene "Reg" Garrett, 77, of Memphis, Tennessee, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2025. Born on April 22, 1948, in Bessemer, Alabama, Reg lived a life filled with passion, dedication, and love for those around him.
Reg grew up with a deep appreciation for music and photography, talents that shaped his vibrant personality. A proud Army veteran, he served honorably in Vietnam, carrying the values of service and sacrifice throughout his life. Reg built a distinguished career in editorial journalism, spanning over 35 years, most of those at The Commercial Appeal, where his sharp intellect and commitment to truth left a lasting impact.
Known for his witty humor and tireless work ethic, Reg was a devoted provider who sacrificed much for his family. He found joy in the simple pleasures of life—camping under the stars, playing his guitar, and cherishing moments with his beloved dog, Cassie, and of course his family. His love for animals and his generous spirit endeared him to all who knew him.
Reg is survived by his loving wife, Brenda; his son, Matt Garrett (Brittany); and his four cherished grandchildren, Caitlyn, Cara, Evan, and Ava. He was preceded in death by his parents Clyde and Martha and three brothers Howard, Sherrill, and Don.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Memphis Union Mission or Collierville VFW 5066, causes close to Reg’s heart.
Reg’s legacy of kindness, humor, and devotion will live on in the hearts of his family and friends. Reg, Dad, Pa, Bobby - We love you and you will be dearly missed.
