It is with deep sorrow and profound love that we announce the passing of Robert Henson, who left this world on November 1, at the age of 80. He was born in Dyess, Arkansas, to parents Hershal and Nancy Kinder Henson.
Robert graduated from Frayser High School, where he was an accomplished basketball player, a testament to his athleticism and team spirit. He went on to pursue higher education at Memphis State University, where he earned his bachelors degree in 1968.
He began his career as a high school teacher and basketball coach in Lewisburg, Tennessee, inspiring and guiding countless students both on and off the court. His impact was not just academic but deeply personal, as he was a mentor and role model to many young people who passed through his classroom.
Later, Robert transitioned into the medical sales industry, working for Hewlett-Packard. There, his diligence and commitment propelled him to a remarkable career, culminating in being ranked third nationally in the sales division. He retired in 1989, leaving a legacy of professionalism and integrity.
A man of deep faith, Robert was an active member of Sycamore View Church of Christ and Oliver Creek Church of Christ. His commitment to ministry and service was reflected in his work with the prison ministry, as well as his involvement in Hope Works and various men's prayer and study groups. He also served as a home group leader, where he continued to inspire others through his words and actions. His faith was a guiding light in his life, and he was beloved by his church community for his unwavering devotion and kindness.
He was the last surviving member of the Henson family, preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Howard Floyd, Coy, Everett, AJ, and sister Frida Barnes. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Denise, with whom he shared a beautiful life and many cherished memories. His love for Denise was steadfast, and together they built a family grounded in faith, love, and compassion.
He is also survived by his children, Cindy Thompson, Dawn Collins (John), Wesley Henson, Aaron Henson (Rebecca), Jennifer Perrone (Ron) and grandchildren: Lindsay, Megan, and Zachary Collins, Carter and Caroline House, Will, Alex and Olivia Perrone & Harley Henson, who were his pride and joy. Robert considered himself truly blessed to have had the privilege of being their father and grandfather. His greatest joy was watching them grow into the people they are today.
His family, friends, and community will forever be grateful for his love, wisdom, and example. He will be missed beyond measure, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be excited when he sees you at the House.
