

ROBERT BOND MITCHELL, III, 61, lovingly known as “Little Skippy” passed away peacefully into the arms of his Savior surrounded by his loving family on February 21, 2013. He was born on November 6, 1951 and was the first born of four children to Robert Bond Mitchell Jr. and Margaret P. Mitchell. He is survived by his parents and 3 sons: Christopher Noel Sherman (Sarah), Jeremy Ryan Mitchell and Dalton Mitchell White; 2 brothers: Barry Scott Mitchell (Karla), and Paul Mark Mitchell (Darsey); and one sister: Meredith Mitchell Klaus (Jeff); 3 nephews and one niece. He attended Messick Elementary and Middle School then attended Catholic High School but returned to Messick High School to graduate in 1970. He attended Memphis State University while attending Electrical School to follow in his father’s footsteps, and became a licensed Journeyman Electrician. Two of his boys have also followed in his footsteps and are accomplished Electricians. He was a 40-year member of the Electrical Union 474. He was a single parent for many years and a loving and devoted father to his boys. At a very early age, he had many interests such as coin collecting, gardening, and rock collecting and he used his creativity for inventions that were patented. He was always busy and loved to learn, especially about nature and the outdoors. he was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and mountain climbing and he also learned survival training. He was a man’s man, who worked on houses and cars but his first passion was his boys, who he spent much time with and taught them everything he knew. He will be greatly missed by all his family including loving aunts and uncles, many cousins, and all else who knew him. Memorials may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or a charity of choice . Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Monday, February 25 at Memphis Funeral Home with services following at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Memory Gardens.
