Robert Lee Young

Robert Lee Young, born January 28, 1947, was the middle of three children born to the late Mr. Jessie and Mrs. Rosetta Wilbum Young in Memphis, Tennessee. Bob, as he was affectionately called, grew up in White Station with his two siblings, Mable and Maurice. At a young age, he committed his life to Christ at the New Philadelphia Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Rev. B.T Dumas, and he was active in Sunday school and youth choir. Robert was best characterized as well-rounded, quiet-spirited, and passionate about his beliefs in God and family. Bob was a 1965 honors graduate of T.W. Patterson

High School where he participated in band,debate, and basketball. During his studies at Tennessee

State University, he pledged Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. (Beta Omicron, 1968) and interned with General Electric Company (G.E.) in Memphis. He graduated in 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and then pursued full-time employment with G.E. in New York, South Carolina, Wisconsin, Virginia, and Minnesota. Throughout his career, he received numerous accolades, and in 2002, he retired after 30 years as a Sales Manager. Upon returning to Memphis, Robert immediately reunited with his home church, New Philadelphia, and served in many leadership positions with the Trustee Board, Sunday school, and Bible study. Bob, an avid reader, Bible scholar, and historian, was a member of Alpha Delta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. A golf enthusiast,he regularly joined several of his golf buddies for tee time around the country Robert is survived by his sister, Mable Young Burchfield (Milton); one brother, Baris Beck; one nephew, Milton “Trey” Burchfield III; one great niece, Kaylan Burchfield; one great nephew, Tre’Shawn Burchfield; three aunts, Rozelle Waller, Mary Louise Boyd, & Hazel Wilburn Harris; two uncles, Homer Patrick, Jr. (Betty) & James Harold Wilburn.

Visitation will be held Friday, June 18th, from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at MJ Edwards 14445 Stage

Road. Memorial services will be held Saturday, June 19th, 11:00am at New Philadelphia Baptist Church 533 South Mendenhall Road, Memphis Tn.
