Ruth Glenda Evans

Ruth Glenda Evans, 92, of Germantown left this world with her daughter by her side on Saturday, October 18th, 2025. She was born in Greenway, AR on May 19th, 1933 to Judith and William Garrard. She graduated from Piggott High School in 1950 and moved to Memphis soon after. She was a telephone operator for South Central Bell from 1952 to 1967. She met and married Sam C. Evans, Sr. in 1962. They were married for almost 30 years when he unexpectedly passed away.

She was a devoted wife to her husband, an incredible mother to her daughter, Vicki, a kind mother-in-law to her son-in-law, Al, and a loving, nurturing, and proud grandmother to her granddaughter, Rachel as well as to Rachel’s husband, Jake. She was a wonderful example of a Christian lady to everyone that met her. She was a devoted friend to all and loved having people in her home and always made them feel very welcome. She was always ready to help others in any way that she could.

She was a member of Germantown Church of Christ for the past 25 years and a long- time member of the Getwell Church of Christ prior to that. She loved to garden, cook, make crafts with her sister, paint, travel, and just be with her family and friends. Her favorite places to go were the beach and Gatlinburg.

She is survived by her daughter Vicki Evans Gabriel (Al) of Germantown, TN, her granddaughter, Rachel Gabriel Cox (Jake) of Austin, TX, and a host of very loved nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her late husband, Sam Evans, Sr., her 5 sisters, Opal, Florence, Bea, Mary and Ann, and her big brother, Bill and her little brother, Joe David, and a niece, Judy, and two nephews, John and Bill.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 26, at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar, Memphis, TN. Visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. with service at 1:30. Burial will be in Memorial Park.

Ruth made her home where family and friends were always welcome and made to feel comfortable.
