Samantha Jane Basden McCormick passed away peacefully on October 25, 2018 on her 59th birthday. She fought a long battle against the effects of Ankylosing Spondylitis, a debilitating type of arthritis.
Samantha was born on October 25, 1959 in Memphis, TN. She attended Memphis Public Schools and graduated from Briarcrest Christian School. She graduated from Methodist Hospital School of Histology. She also attended the Northwest Mississippi Community College of Nursing but had to withdraw before graduation because of the disease she so gallantly fought. Samantha worked in the medical field most of her adult life.
Samantha leaves her parents, Charles David Basden and Jane Claire Felts Basden; her husband, Lt. Col. James B. (Ben) McCormick, U.S. Air Force – Retired; brother, Charles W. Basden (Debi); daughter, Dana Jewel Dix; step daughter, Michelle McCormick Wyatt (Brad); step grandsons, Parker Wyatt, Chase Wyatt and Carson Wyatt; step son, Matthew B. McCormick (Bobbi); and step granddaughter Rylee-Joy McCormick. She also leaves an uncle and several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 30, 2018, at Harmontown Baptist Church located at 24 County Road 509, Como, MS. The family will be taking visitors at the church between 10:00am and noon. Services will commence at noon. Interment will be on Wednesday, October 31, 2018, at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery located at 4000 Forest Hill-Irene Road, Memphis, TN promptly at 10:15am.
