

Sarah Ellen Gentry Trammel, 90, born on April 18, 1922 in Memphis, Tennessee, died April 8, 2013 in Memphis. Born to Culmer & Louise Gentry, she was a member of the National Honor Society and Salutatorian of the Wilson High School Class of 1940 where she was also the editor of the school newspaper, the Wilson Bull Dog. She loved handiwork, including quilting, cross stitch, embroidery, and sewed most of her own clothes. She made all of her own Christmas decorations, she hand beaded ornaments, strung miles of beads to make her own garland, and tatted many a snow flake. She won several ribbons for her work at the Mid-South Fair. She loved watching her “stories” on the TV, from “Perry Mason” to “Jeopardy” and “As the World Turns”. Enjoyed a glass of iced tea on the front porch or a nice cold coke; also Sarah had to have desert, even if only red Jell-O. Family and friends will gather for a time of remembrance and celebration on Friday at 2PM, with visitation starting at noon all at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, conducted by staff celebrant Jonathan Matthews. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard Leon “Pinkey” Trammel and daughter Barbara Ann Trammel Thorne. Sarah is survived by her son Howard Leon Trammel, Jr. of Kingman, AZ and George Edward Trammel from Pope, MS; brother Charlie Gentry of Memphis, TN; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
