

Virgil Walter Bryan, 87, died in Memphis, Tennessee on March 8, 2012. He was born in Memphis on October 30. 1924 to the late Reuben Walter Bryan and Edith Notestine Bryan. Mr. Bryan, a native Memphian, was a member of the Tech High School Graduating Class of 1942. He started working for E.H. Crump Company in Memphis prior to joining the United States Army. He was a member of the 106th Infantry Division and Battle of the Bulge Veteran. Following his discharge he returned to Memphis with E.H. Crump Company and later began his banking career. He formerly worked for Future Federal Savings & Loan in Sikeston, Missouri and retired as Vice President with Leader Federal Savings & Loan in Memphis. He was involved with Boys Town of Memphis, Memphis Sertoma and the Memphis Old Time Auto Association. Mr. Bryan was a member of the Shady Grove Presbyterian Church of Memphis. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Morton Bryan. Mr. Bryan is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Morton Bryan of Memphis; two sisters, Frances Woodward and Kathleen Welman, both of Memphis; two brothers, Estes Bryan, Sr. of Memphis and Leonard Bryan of Bethel Springs, Tennessee along with a number of nephews, nieces, other relatives and many, many friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 3:00 P.M. at the Shady Grove Presbyterian Church, 5530 Shady Grove Road, Memphis, Tennessee 38120. Visitation will also be Saturday at the church from 2:00 until 3:00 P.M. with a private interment at the Magnolia Cemetery in Collierville, Tennessee. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial donations to the Shady Grove Presbyterian Church.
