

Virginia Christine Merchent Witt, born in Tupelo, MS on December 23, 1918, went to her Heavenly Home on July 29, 2016, to be with her beloved husband, Jack Jones Witt (1912-1967), her infant daughter, Jacqueline Ann Witt and her beloved parents, James Floyd and Virginia Frances Christian Merchent of Tupelo, MS. Christine is the beloved Mother of Betty Frances Witt Martin (Jack Hugh) of Memphis,TN, Billy Paul Witt (Jane Elizabeth) of Hernando, MS, Sheila Joyce Witt Zaricor Wilson (Jim) of Memphis, TN. She is the beloved Grandmother of Melanie Joyce Martin Jones of Memphis, TN, David Zacariah Zaricor of Plano,TX, Amy Elizabeth Witt Hill of Memphis, TN and William Andrew Witt of Seattle, WA. Beloved StepGrandmother of Brian Wilson of Memphis, TN and Kimberly Wilson Sloan of Moore, OK. She is the beloved GreatGrandmother of Jessica Christine Jones, Katherine Elizabeth Hill and William Jonah Witt. Beloved StepGreatGrandmother of Maegan Sloan, Allison Sloan and Grace Olivia Wilson.
Christine loved God, Family, Friends and Country. “Aunt Tine” touched and is loved by all of her many nieces and nephews. Next to her late three brothers, James Ralph Merchent, William Raymond Merchent and Roy Douglas Merchent, all of Tupelo, MS, all who served in WWII, her hero was John Wayne. She spent many restless nights dreaming of “dragging the Duke all over East Tupelo”. She expressed her creativity and love through her sewing. That invisible thread of love was evident in every stitch she made. She is “the tie that binds”. Mother, Grandmother, GranGran, Aunt, Friend, Neighbor, Christine will be remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
