

Walter Thomas Phillips, 86, passed away March 4, 2022. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean War. Mr. Phillips retired from the Memphis Fire Department with more than 25 years of service. During his service with the Memphis Fire Department he held the first research and development position within the department. After his retirement from the fire department he became a contract specialist with the government. He was a member of LaBelle Haven Baptist Church for more than 57 years where he also served as a Deacon. In his spare time he enjoyed wood carving and went on to be a Master Wood Carver.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Ida Belle Phillips; as well as two sisters and one brother.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lila Juliet Netcher Phillips; four sons, Thomas Lee Phillips (Lisa), Larry Phillips, Russell Scott Phillips, Corey Blair Phillips (Tammy); grandchildren, Christopher Phillips (Felicia), Rachel Phillips Bolick (Roger), Emily Davis (Tyler), Wesley Phillips, Sarah Phillips, Walter Phillips, Kaitlyn Phillips, Carter Phillips and Elizabeth Blair Phillips; great grandchildren, Emery Phillips, Cohen Phillips and Bristol Phillips; sister, Mary Jane Glatt, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday March 9, 2022 at 11 a.m. at Memorial Park Cemetery, 5668 Poplar Avenue, Memphis, Tennessee 38119.
