Wayne was born July 10, in Mulberry, AR to Ernest and Leota Nelson of Van Buren, AR. They preceded him in death.
His survivors are his wife of 18 years, Pennie Nelson, and his daughter, Morgan, here in Memphis, TN. Other survivors are 2 daughters, Mitzi Nelson of Van Buren, AR., Landi Hopkins of Fort Smith, AR., and 1 son, Jay Nelson of Murfreesboro, TN. He has 1 brother, Larry Nelson and wife Teresa, of Van Buren, AR., 1 sister, Kay Jackson and husband Danny, of Cedarville, AR. He has 3 grandsons, Joey Holcomb of Van Buren, AR., Breck Hopkins of Fort Smith, AR., and Tyler Nelson of Murfreesboro, TN. He has 1 granddaughter, Allison Nelson of Murfreesboro, TN. He has 3 great-grandchildren, Lily, Cameron, and JJ Holcomb of Van Buren, AR. He also survived many, many friends.
Wayne was a commercial and residential builder by trade. He had many building projects around the country his whole life.
He was a member of Bellevue Baptist where he attended a Life Group, and sang in the choir. He gathered a lot of his strength from his church family for many years.
Unfortunately, his autoimmune disease was never truly diagnosed. Medicines used to control the disease eventually took its toll on his vital organs. Wayne always believed that God would turn this around for the good, just like the bible promises. He HE has. His condition was so rare that doctors asked his permission to use his medical history in a medical journal. Unknowingly, Wayne may have saved many lives through this. For whatever reason, God chose Wayne to be HIS advocate. He was strong and fought to the end.
Thank you all so much for the love, prayers, and support. They are much needed.
