Wendel Sharif

Wendel Sharif of Memphis, Tennessee, born Clemmie Shields Jr. 06/09/1935, loved and known by many as simply “Simonize” a nickname he adopted from his father, passed away on 10/30/2013. He is survived by six children, Ethel Sharif-Collier (Calvin), Wendel Sharif, Jr. of Dallas, TX, Nassen Sharif-Mitchell, Safiyya Sharif, Ameerah Sharif and Hallema Sharif, one sister, Helen Perkins of Mansfield, OH, 15 grandchildren, and countless friends and business associates. He is predeceased in death by his parents, Clemmie Shields, Sr. and Oddist Odessa Douglass Shields, and siblings Curtis Shields, Rufus Shields, Rena Mae Shields, and Malinda Briscoe.

Mr. Sharif served our country in the military and worked many jobs and traveled the world during his lifetime. His last employment was with the Kemmons Wilson Companies and he is most remembered by the Wilson family and employees for his kindness and for his constant loyal companionship to Kemmons Wilson, founder of Holiday Inns, until his death in 2003. He was very loved and will be missed.

Graveside Services at the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery at 4000 Forest Hill Irene Road will be held at 930a on Wednesday, November 6, 2013.
