

William James Burdett, 80, of Germantown, passed away January 6, 2014, at Methodist Hospital in Germantown. He retired from the Illinois Central Railroad, was a graduate of Mid-America Theological Seminary and a U. S. Army veteran. As an ordained minister at Central Church he taught Evangelism Explosion for 18 years and was Sunday School teacher for the 6th grade class. He and his wife were Founders and Directors of the Love Home: Mark 9:37. Rev. Burdett is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruby E. Burdett; his brother, Glenn C. Burdett (Delores) of Edgewater, FL; sisters-in-law, Rose Baker and Polly Smith of Memphis; nephew, John E. Burdett (Michelle) of Topeka, KS, nieces, Glenda Motta (Nicky) of Loveland, CO and Patricia Yearwood (John) of Memphis; and many other nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and great-great nieces and great-great-nephews who love him and will miss him dearly. The family will receive friends Friday, January 10, from 5-7 p.m. at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, Poplar Avenue with the service Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be sent to the Prison Ministry at Central Church or Hope Presbyterian Church Urban Ministries.
