

Dr. Zelfred Clyde Smith Jr peacefully passed from this life on July 19, 2022 in Memphis, TN surrounded by his wife, Sherry Smith and daughter, Sara Pettersen. Zelfred was born December 18, 1931 in Corinth, MS to Zelfred C & Mary Ella Smith. He graduated from Corinth High School and Bob Jones University. He received an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Divinity from Bob Jones University. He organized the Iuka High School and Kossuth High School Band Departments. He was the founder of Grace Bible Baptist Church in Corinth, MS. He spent over 25 years in Pastoring Churches and then over 10 years traveling in Evangelism. He later spent 27 years with the TN Department of Corrections in various roles.
He loved the Lord, he loved studying and teaching others and he was always Bold in asking others about their relationship with the Lord. He wanted others to know about God. He spent many hours each day studying the Bible, as his desire was to know the Word of God. He loved music, he enjoyed playing the clarinet and saxophone. He played in several Church orchestra’s. He enjoyed watching his Ole Miss Rebels play football and baseball.
Zelfred was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church.
Zelfred was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Robert (Gene) Smith. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Smith, and children, Donna (Doug) Lowery Greenville, SC, Fred (Crystal) Smith Fairbault, MN, Stephen Smith New Holland PA, Tim (Maria) Smith Powhatan, VA, Sara (Phil) Pettersen Olive Branch, MS, 12 Grand Children and 18 Great Grand Children.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, July 23 at 10:00 AM at Crossroads Baptist Church. A memorial service will be held following visitation at 11:00 AM.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crossroads Baptist Church.
